How many of you wake up in the morning, so excited to experience the features of your coffee maker?

Probably not too many. The experience you want is the smell, taste and pickup you get from your cup of joe.

It’s easy to forget when we are painstakingly reviewing sets of features and requirements that they are merely tools to support the users’ real goals. Sure, my coffee maker is shiny stainless steel and has neat blue, backlit buttons. But it’s the ease with which it produces my desired beverage that has the real value for me. Understanding what is a key element of an experience and what is merely a tool to get you there can help us decide where to invest our resources to have the biggest impact.
